Public Invited to Join VA For Food Drive
The public is invited to join the Hines VA in a “Feds Feed Families” canned food drive, which will provide non-perishable food items to the Chicago Food Depository. During the summer months, food banks traditionally encounter lulls in the level of giving due to holidays and other demands on donors' time. To help the food pantries stock up to meet critical needs for their services, Hines is helping by collecting non-perishable food donations during the months of June, July and August. The public can drop off non-perishable food items now until Aug. 31 in collection bins located near the main entrances to the hospital and in the F Lobby of Building One at Hines. On Aug. 15th , VA is also holding a “One Can/One Day” and encouraging every VA employee to bring in one canned food item, so VA can meet its nationwide collection goal of 230,000 lbs. The public is also invited to participate in this event. Suggested items include canned fruits, canned vegetables, multigrain cereals, grains, canned proteins, soups, 100% juice, condiments, snacks, baking goods such as floor and sugar and paper products and household items.
