Edward Hines Jr., VA Hospital surpasses 13,922 video visits in 2020 - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently announced that video telehealth appointments to Veterans’ homes increased over 1000 percent, as Veterans increasingly chose virtual care through VA Video Connect (VVC) during the COVID-19 pandemic. In Hines, Illinois, the Edward Hines Jr., VA Hospital has conducted over 13,922 VVC appointments between Oct. 1, 2019 and July 7, 2020. (07/08/2020)

Edward Hines Jr. VA to Host Multi-event Veterans Day Celebration - On Monday, November 11, 2019, Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital will recognize and honor local Veterans with a full day of activities for Veterans Day, including a parade on the Hines VA campus, a Veteran recognition ceremony and speakers program, a free lunch provided by the Gary Sinise Foundation, and an informational resource fair available throughout the event. Illinois Donor Leaves $5 Million to Hines VA - Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital received a ceremonial check for $5 million Friday, March 8 as part of a presentation from the estate of Mrs. Rose Serwa. Stanley Serwa, Rose’s husband, and her brother-in-law, Richard Mech, were both World War II Veterans who served in the U.S. Army. It was Mr. Mech, who spent time in the Community Living Center at Hines VA before he passed away in 2003, that is the strongest connection between the family and the VA. (03/08/2019)

Hines VA Medication Takeback Day to Support Suicide Prevention - Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital is encouraging Veterans, employees, volunteers and our community partners to help remove means by disposing of unused, unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter drugs in a safe, convenient and responsible way. Hines Recognized with Prestigious Award for Patriotic Support of the Military - Hines VA Hospital was recently honored by the Illinois Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve with the prestigious Seven Seals Award. TBI Excellence Award - The Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital Brain Rehabilitation Team is the recipient of the prestigious 2011 James Brady Award. This distinguished award is given to honor a person or organization that goes above and beyond to improve lives of persons with brain injury, thereby supporting the mission and goals of the Brain Injury Association of Illinois. Hines to Open new Clinic in Kankakee County this Fall - Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital will be expanding the current Manteno Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) by moving to a new larger, more modern location this fall. The new clinic will be renamed the Kankakee CBOC. The new clinic will open October 3rd, 2011 and will be located at 581 William Latham Drive, Bourbonnais, IL 60914-2435, just 10 miles from the current location. (08/24/2011)

Hines Announces Plan to Expand Healthcare Services to Will County Veterans - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced plans today to expand services to Will County Veterans by opening a new 60,000 square foot Veterans Outpatient Clinic in Joliet. The VA agreed to purchase 4.4 acres of the existing campus of Silver Cross hospital in Joliet, IL, including a two-story Emergency Department building and approximately 175 parking spaces. VA to Expand Services to Suburban Cook County Veterans - The Department of Veterans Affairs announced today that it will be expanding services to Veterans in the southwest suburbs of Chicago by opening a new, larger and more modern outpatient clinic in Oak Lawn, Illinois. The new clinic, which will be located just one mile from the current VA clinic location in Oak Lawn, will feature almost three times the clinical space of the old location as well as expanded parking.
