Situation Update

As of Thursday, March 26, 2020 11:27 AM CDT

Hines VA is on normal operating status.

Important Updates:

- For the safety of patients, visitors and staff, the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital is changing its visitation policy for all of its heath care facilities to help to combat the spread of the Coronavirus. Effective at 6:00 AM CST, March 18, 2020, the VA Hospital and its six community-based VA clinics are adopting a “No Visitors” policy until further notice. Visitors will be prohibited from entering the medical center or clinics unless it is necessary for providing medical care or visiting under compassionate care circumstances, such as grave illness or imminent death of a family member under care in the facility; these visits will be limited to one individual at a time and only in the Veteran’s room. No visitors under the age of 14 will be permitted. All Veterans and visitors (meeting the above criteria) entering the campus will be pre-screened for signs of respiratory illness prior to entry. Per CDC guidance and VA protocols, individuals known to be at risk for a COVID-19 infection are immediately isolated to prevent potential spread to others.

The Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital encourages all patients, visitors, and staff to keep current with weather conditions and emergency information issued by local city and county government officials. In the event of an emergency situation when you are in the hospital, you will hear bell signals or voice messages indicating the nature of the emergency.

  • Seven bells indicate a tornado warning.
  • If you hear nine bells, hospital staff are being alerted to respond to some type of emergency.
  • Five bells indicate an all-clear following any situation.

If there is a disaster, information regarding the status of Hines VA Hospital will be available on this web site.

Hines cares about the health and welfare of all our patients, visitors and employees. We encourage everyone to follow emergency preparedness guidelines found at the links below and stay informed in the event of any emergency.
