COVID-19 vaccines:

Hines VA Hospital is offering the COVID-19 vaccine to anyone who served in the military, their caregivers and spouses, and some other beneficiaries under the authority granted by the SAVE LIVES Act.

All Veterans, caregivers and spouses, and CHAMPVA beneficiaries can receive the COVID-19 vaccine at Hines VA facilities, based on priority and availability. If Veterans are enrolled in VA healthcare, they can schedule vaccination appointments by calling 708-202-2707 or 708-202-7000. For Veterans, spouses or caregivers not enrolled in VA health care, they can visit www.va.gov/covid-19-vaccine to request a vaccination appointment, and Hines VA representative will call back to schedule a time based on vaccine availability.

Please do not bring children to appointments.

For more information, visit https://www.va.gov/health-care/covid-19-vaccine/.

You can learn more about eligibility and how to apply at www.va.gov/healthbenefits or call 1-877-222-VETS.

To get the latest updates and sign up to stay informed about COVID-19 vaccines, visit VA's vaccine information page.

VA is following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance to pause in providing the Janssen vaccine at this time. This pause is due to a concern about possible rare side effects. Your safety is our top priority. For more information, go to the CDC website. Read the CDC and FDA statement on the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. If you have a vaccine appointment scheduled, we will work with you to determine next steps.

Important Updates: - Face coverings are required for all patients, visitors and staff while on Hines VA campus. Face coverings will be provided at designated screening entrances, if needed.

- For the safety of patients, visitors and staff, Hines VA and its six community-based clinics have a “no visitor” policy until further notice. Visitors will be prohibited from entering the medical center or clinics unless it is necessary for providing medical care or visiting under compassionate care circumstances, such as grave illness or imminent death of a family member under care in the facility; these visits will be limited to one individual at a time and only in the Veteran’s room. No visitors under the age of 14 will be permitted. All Veterans and visitors (meeting the above criteria) entering the campus will be pre-screened for signs of respiratory illness prior to entry. Per CDC guidance and VA protocols, individuals known to be at risk for a COVID-19 infection are immediately isolated to prevent potential spread to others. Call your local VA medical center if you have symptoms, have traveled to an area with widespread transmission of COVID 19, or exposed to others diagnosed with the virus.

Disaster Preparation Information

The Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital encourages all patients, visitors, and staff to keep current with weather conditions and emergency information issued by local city and county government officials. In the event of an emergency situation when you are in the hospital, you will hear bell signals or voice messages indicating the nature of the emergency.

  • Seven bells indicate a tornado warning.
  • If you hear nine bells, hospital staff are being alerted to respond to some type of emergency.
  • Five bells indicate an all-clear following any situation.

If there is a disaster, information regarding the status of Hines VA Hospital will be available on this web site.

Hines cares about the health and welfare of all our patients, visitors and employees. We encourage everyone to follow emergency preparedness guidelines found at the links below and stay informed in the event of any emergency. If there is a local or medical emergency, remember to dial 911 as soon as possible.
